Spotsylvania Staff Ride - Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, Virginia

​LOGISTICS:

​Travel:  Recommended travel days on Monday and Friday with organizational offsite time on Tuesday.

​Lodging: We recommend The Inn at Stevenson Ridge as an offsite location.  If your group size exceeds their lodging capacity or your per diem allowance, choose from a variety of hotels in and around Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Schedule:  Recommend Tuesday or Wednesday half day for Spotsylvania, with an icebreaker the night before and an integration dinner that night.

Group size:  Minimum 8 people per conference group; maximum of 14 people per conference group.  Maximum of 5 groups at a time.  OMNA will provide one retired senior leader either a U.S. Marine or a Firefighter to facilitate learning for each conference group.6

Transportation:  Groups provide their own transportation to the battlefield (usually rented 15 passenger vans).  Walking options available (2-6 miles).  Contact us for logistics options.

A part of our two-day Overland Campaign Staff Ride, Spotsylvania can also be done as a stand-alone in half a day.  Or link it together with The Wilderness for a full day staff ride.  Walk Emory Upton's attack route, walk historic Mule Shoe defense, visit the ruins of the Landrum Farm.  This is a great break in the middle of an offsite.  

​LEARNING OUTCOMES: 

+ Leaders evaluate the effects of leadership decisions during one key battle during a long campaign.  We explore innovations from lower leaders, incorporation of lessons learned from past campaigns, weighting main effort, and evaluating sunk costs.

+ Participants learn more about how their colleagues feel, think, frame problems, and communicate their decisions into action.

+ Teams build cohesion by spending time walking together in small groups through the fields and trails near Spotsylvania Courthouse.
